Deep Tissue vs. Sports

Sports massage is not necessarily deep tissue. In fact, if you are about to participate in a sporting event, or intense training, deep tissue is probably what you do not need, as it can set up areas in the soft tissue to tear with excess stress.

Deep Tissue massage is intended to work the origin, attachment and belly of the muscle. Deep Tissue massage actually strips the muscle from origin to attachment to alleviate restrictions in the muscle.

Sports Massage uses compression, friction, effleurage, petrissage and stretching to flush and cleanse the muscle and other soft tissue. These techniques also serve to warm the tissue in preparation for a work out.
